UPDATE FROM HSC
Hi HSC Member,
Since our last newsletter over 3 weeks ago, the club has been buzzing with activity on and off the water. The Club changing rooms and facilities have (partially) reopened under a little copper tag system (waiting for you in a plastic tub by the entrance), the complimentary tea and coffee set up has been so successful that yesterday we were down to our last tea bag (since re-stocked so no worries on that front) and the free stash of beers generously left for thirsty sailors by our Commodore have been very efficiently demolished (please feel free to restock).
Thank you to everyone for complying with the rules so brilliantly, so far so good.
ON THE WATER
Last weekend was the first day of the Harbour Interclub race series and the sailors were treated to a gloriously sunny morning out on the water. The wind was very light which didn't suit everyone, but nevertheless there were 48 boats on the start line which was a beautiful sight. The series is a Club competition and HSC are currently sitting in 3rd place, points-wise, behind MSC and CSC, however there is still plenty to play for. The next 2 races will be on 4th October at 10:30, so let's all get out on the water and help team HSC climb up those rankings.
We have also now successfully run our Harbour Challenge Cup to which we invited our neighbours MSC to join. Overall, 41 boats signed on to race the series with Dave in his Laser winning the top spot. We have also concluded our Harbour Evening series, battled out by 21 different boats over 3 races with Pete Emerson in his Laser taking first place overall.
WEEKEND OF CUP RACING
In the spirit of trying to make up for the somewhat discombobulated racing programme this year, we would like to run a WEEKEND of one off Cup Races (2 cups, 2 competitions) in September, just for a bit of fun.
First up, we will hold a one off SEA Autumn (Covid) Cup competition on SATURDAY 19th Sep - start time will be 10:30, with a max wind strength limitation of around 18 knots. This invite is for HSC boats only as we will be limited in numbers that we can support (around 12 boats). We already have a family team running the race in one RIB, we are looking for another family team to take the second RIB as support. Please let firstname.lastname@example.org know if you are available man/woman the other RIB.
Following the jaunt out to sea the day before, we will then run a Harbour Autumn Cup on SUNDAY 20th September, again with a 10:30 start.
These will be 2 separate cups, no need to compete in both, it will however probably be our only race out to sea this year, so make the most of the opportunity.
Hope you can make it and you never know, someone may have refilled the galley fridge with some more beer by then …
